Twitter offers instant communication and the power of microblogging — short, 140-character postings made accessible to and from computers and cell phones.
Since few months i have been using twitter extensively but its very tedious to update your blog everytime and also tweet about your latest blog on your tweeter account. So if you tweet using RSS feeds than every post you do on your blog or website gets posted automatically on your twitter account. So no need to update it manually :)
The following steps will help you understand how to really do it -
1. Login to your basic twitter account or create one.
2. Create an account at TwitterFeed. Sign up is easy and fast. You can do it at one click with an existing email address.
3. Once you create an account and are logged in, you can add your RSS feed to your twitter profile. Enter the name of the blog and RSS feed in the fields provided. You will understand as you go.
4. Advance Settings: You can change the settings like updating frequency, post sorting, adding prefix or postfix, using shortened link and keyword filter. Click on “Done”.
5. Choose Twitter service and authenticate your Twitter Account and Click “ Create”.
Click on Done.
Continue the same process for multiple blog RSS to be added on twitter.
Now you can relax as everytime you post something on blog will be automatically added as a tweet on your designated twitter account. Hitarth Jani [dot] com uses same method to post tweets and hence drives huge traffic.
Wondering where i was and why i didnt write up anything lately on my website ? With the new looks of my website you would have already guessed what i was doing.
Yes, you guessed it right. I have migrated my website from Joomla 1.0.15 to 1.5.22. Here i am trying to write down the steps i took to migrate my website. I havent put any pics or videos to show but i think my language is easy enough to understand. But before i start writing the steps please note the following things:
Please note that it is highly recommended to fully BACKUP your website... errrrr Your Joomla 1.0 website. :)
Please also note that Joomla migration will only migrate the content of your Joomla 1.0.x and not Third Party Components, Modules and Plugins.
Alrity, here we go now :)
Step 1: Install the Migrator Component
The first step is to install the Migrator component to your existing Joomla 1.0.x web site. You can download the Migrator component available on Internet. The current version available is Version 1.5.
It can be installed as any other component you install into your Joomla 1.0.x. and could be accessed from Components -> Migrator at the top. This is the component that helps migrate all conents from Joomla 1.0.x to Joomla 1.5.x
Step 2: Third Party ETL Plugins
Many 3rd Party extensions have ETL plugins that can be downloaded from Extensions Directory. These ETL plugins migrates data from Joomla 1.0.x to Joomla 1.5.x. When we create Migration SQL file in Step 3 we can use these plugins to migrate the Third Party extensions data.
If there is no such ETL plugin available search around in internet about how to migrate a particular 3rd party extension into Joomla 1.5.x. Almost in most of the cases first we import the Database table for that extension and install that extension in Joomla 1.5.x at a later stage after the basic migration is done.
Step 3: Create Migration SQL File
On the Migrator Component screen click on Create Migration SQL file located at the bottom of the page. This will create a SQL dump that can be imported in the latest version of Joomla.
After creation, download this SQL dump on your local computer.
Step 4: Make a clean Joomla 1.5.x Install
Now that everything related to Joomla 1.0.x is done its time to install Joomla 1.5.x manually. Yes, it is important to intall it manually rather than using Fantastico or other services. Install it in a new folder on the hosting server say, dev.
Proceed with the installation untill you reach Step 6: Configuation
The key part in this step is to select Load Migration Script option.
After that browse and select that Migration SQL file that we created in Step 3 and proceed.
Once the data is imported Joomla 1.5.x install is complete and you will be able to see the contents of your Joomla 1.0.x into Joomla 1.5.x.
Please also note that it is recommended to delete Install directory after the installation is complete :)
Hope this small tutorial is helpful to everybody in understand the migration process of Joomla.
Seeing its success i have decided to start a Category with Joomla in my Blog Section. Here i will be putting in my thoughts and views about Joomla, its components, modules and plugins. I will also try to evaluate different components and modules so the users know which one is best suitable for their websites or blogs.
I hope you all will enjoy this too and make my articles section a success too like the downloads one. And yes, there is no change in Joomla Downloads Section. It is as it is as it was. No change what so ever. Infact i am trying to put some more useful things for Joomla users in downloads section soon.
