Is regionalism above nationalism?

Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray's recent outburst against Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan\'s loyalty towards his native place (Uttar Pradesh) has raised several eyebrows. While it drew strong retaliation by Jaya Bachchan and Amar Singh, many objected to Thackeray's opposition to the celebration of Uttar Bharatiya Diwas and Chhath Puja in Maharashtra. Clashes broke out between supporters of Raj Thackeray and Samajwadi Party workers in Mumbai.

Taking exception to Raj\'s advice that non-Maharashtrians should shout the slogan Jai Maharashtra, Railway Minister Lalu Yadav said people should instead say Jai Bharat . The recent developments have revived the question whether those living in metropolis have a right to target migrants from other states. Not long ago, actor-turned-politician Hema Malini drew criticism over her remarks against north Indian migrants in Maharashtra. Is it high time that as a Social Secular Democratic Republic, we rose against regionalism and learn to treat all as Indians?

In My view, Indians have fundamental rights to do anything and anywhere in the country. Any one can celebrate any festival or set up any businesses of his / her like in secular India. It is our citizens fundamental right.

What if Millions of Tamil engineers who are working in big petrochemicals industries in Gujarat are said to go back to there place?

What if Millions of Gujarati business persons are said to go back to Gujarat from Mumbai? Has Mumbai anything to offer if Gujarati Business lobby are not there in the picture?

If you have problems with Chhath Puja, why dont you rebel against Garbas which is a festival from Gujarat or Christmas which is a festival of Christians and not Marathis?

Raj Thackeray\'s remarks have flared up the issue of regionalism above nationalism. We are living in 21st Century. Its time now to grow above from all these issues and get united as one India. It hardly matters even if we have different festivals in states of India, still our unique ability to call ourselves as Indians is appreciated all over the world. Atleast take pride in it.  What face will you take against international Arena if we are engaged in such issues every now and then?

Lets take a oath that any insult or abusive comment of such a kind on fellow citizens would not be tolerated. We are Indians and we should be proud of our culture, various festivals and should learn good things from it rather than commenting on it.

Rama Setu: Controversy

Picture taken by Nasa of Ram Setu

All of us must be aware about the latest controversy on the Ram Setu, a natural structure which connects India with the Sri Lanka. Last week on its first affidavit filed in Supreme Court government said that there is no proof of existence of lord Rama or Rama Setu. After the major Hue and Cry by opposition and people of Hindu community, government took u-turn on its stand and decided to file a new affidavit in the court and also suspended to two ASI officers. This whole controversy started when NASA released the photographs of some kind of structure under the sea connecting India and Sri Lanka.

The structure completely looks like a bridge inside the sea like one constructed by vaanar sena of Rama is Ramayana. At present, it is difficult to tell that this bridge is made by Lord Rama’s sena or it is a natural structure. However, the major concern in this whole matter that government hads not done any study on Rama setu before submitting their affidavit. How ASI can claim that this is natural structure when they have not done any study in the last 60 years on Rama Setu?

The other question which can be raised that why Indian government is adamant on destroying Rama setu when it is possible to construct a second route slightly away from present location without causing any damage to the Rama Setu. It is overall duty of the Indian government to bring truth to the surface and avoid any hasty decision of destroying something sacred or valuable. It is not right to give religious colour to this matter but it is also not right to destroy something which represents the faith of large number of people of this country.

Hum Kare Rashtra Aradhan

Lyrics:

"True independence and freedom can only exist in doing what's right."

I have always been fascinated by this saying by Chanakya - The man who united all states of India way before Britishers came to India and way before we fought for freedom of our Motherland and way before we achieved our Independence.

The greatest gift you can give your children are the roots of responsibility and the wings of independence indeed.

\"What makes a nation, is the past, what justifies one nation against others is the past", says the noted historian Eric Hobsbawm.

Hence, when talking of a nation, it becomes very imperative that the past should also be talked about. And the past of India is as fascinating and interesting as it is momentous.  The Song above has a great past. It was once thought to be kept as National Anthem of India before actual National Anthem status was given to "Jana Gana Mana" written by Rabindranath Tagore.

This song was featured in a tele-serial of Chanakya representing National intergrity and is sung by Chandragupta Maurya and others in Takshashila Vidyashram. Chankya being the architect of first Indian empire the above song fits into the situation where is trying to re-build the empire by uniting small states during those days. He indeed showed the world how a Nation can stand against almost any situation by uniting themselves.

Today after almost 2500 years of his existence we are completing 60 years of our Independence of modern India. But very few know that India which we are seeing today on world map was visioned way ahead by this man and named it as "BHARAT". Lets pay a tribute to the Man who is regarded as pioneer economist of the world this Independence Day.

Wish You all,

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY
